India Monsoon Malabar represents a centuries-old tradition born during the British Raj, when coffee beans transported by sea from the Malabar Coast to Europe were transformed by monsoon winds and humidity. Today, Arabica beans from Karnataka’s coastal region undergo the same unique monsooning process—exposed to moisture-laden winds in open warehouses during June through September—causing them to swell, turn pale gold, and develop the distinctive low-acidity, full-bodied character with earthy dark chocolate and nutty notes that made this coffee legendary worldwide.
